This Homecoming, we’re not just coming home—we’re moving forward together.

In celebration of the Centennial of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha Delta is proud to collaborate with West Virginia State University to present the WVSU Homecoming Mental Health 5K Run/Walk + 2.2K on October 2, 2026.

Created as part of Alpha Delta’s historic Centennial celebration, this event brings together 100 years of sisterhood and service, the spirit of WVSU Homecoming, and a shared commitment to mental health and wellness.

The race distances also carry special meaning. The 5K represents the traditional race distance. In comparison, the 2.2K serves as the commemorative Centennial distance, honoring the 22 Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, who founded the Sorority in 1913 and established a lasting legacy of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. As the Alpha Delta Chapter celebrates its Centennial, the 2.2K connects this historic milestone to the Sorority's foundation and legacy.

And this is bigger than one race.

The vision is to create an experience that continues to bring the WVSU community together through movement, wellness, service, fellowship, and Homecoming tradition for years to come.

EXPERIENCE STATE FROM THE COURSE

There’s something special about being back at State—and this Homecoming, we’re taking that feeling to the streets and pathways of campus.

Both courses will take participants through the West Virginia State University campus, turning familiar campus surroundings into a Homecoming race experience filled with WVSU pride, energy, and community.

Whether you’re an alum returning to a place filled with memories, a current student experiencing Homecoming from a new perspective, or a community member visiting State, every step is part of the experience.

5K RUN/WALK — 3.1 MILES

The 5K is our main competitive course, taking runners and walkers on a 3.1-mile route throughout the WVSU campus.

Race it for a personal best. Run it with your friends. Walk it with your organization. Or make this the year you complete your first 5K.

The 5K features professional race timing, a finish-line clock, overall and age-group competition, and a commemorative medal and t-shirt for every finisher.

2.2K RUN/WALK — 1.37 MILES

Not ready for a 5K? You can still be part of the starting line.

Our 2.2K Access & Inclusion Distance offers a shorter route through campus for families, beginners, casual walkers, and anyone who wants to participate at their own pace.

The 2.2K begins 15 minutes before the 5K and remains within the larger course boundary, allowing participants to experience the same Homecoming atmosphere, community support, and finish-line celebration.

And yes—2.2K finishers receive the same commemorative finisher medal.

Early Bird Registration: $30 August 28 – September 18, 2026
Regular Registration: $40 September 19 -September 25, 2026

Choose your race: 5K Run/Walk — 3.1 Miles or 2.2K Run/Walk — 1.37 Miles.
Your registration includes:

Commemorative finisher medal
Commemorative T-shirt

IMPORTANT: T-shirts and medals must be picked up in person during designated packet pickup on race day. Registrants may have another person pick up their items on their behalf. Items will not be mailed of shipped.

The 5K & 2.2K Run/Walk isn’t just about crossing the finish line—it’s your chance to compete, challenge yourself, and represent your age group during WVSU Homecoming!

Participants in the 5K will compete in the following age divisions:

19 & Under
20–29
30–39
40–49
50–59
60–69
70 & Over

The Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female finishers in each age group will be recognized.

In addition, the Top 3 Overall Male and Top 3 Overall Female finishers will receive overall recognition.

Whether you’re chasing the podium, a personal record, or your very first 5K finish, there’s something worth celebrating at every age and every pace.

Awards

All 5K and 2.2K participants who cross the finish line will receive a commemorative finisher medal and t-shirt.
