Charity Information
The West Virginia Dance Co. is WV's only professional touring modern dance company. They travel throughout WV and the region each year with a thought-provoking blend of educational and entertaining modern works. Their touring educational arts program, which is presented to over 40,000 students each year, teaches core subjects through dance. Workshops using movement teach lessons in science, math, and geography. Teachers and administrators, as well as state education leaders, praise this program. Arts-based learning is extremely limited throughout Appalachia, and through this event, the WV Dance Company aims to raise funds for Arts Education. Matching funds are provided to schools to allow them to offer these unique and effective learning experiences to their students, regardless of the school budgets.
Aside from the artistic and educational value, WVDC dancers are wonderful role-models for students. All holding Bachelor or Masters degrees, they are examples of setting goals, coming to school regularly and continuing education beyond high school. Dancers interact with students, encouraging them to follow their dreams through education.
