Course

5K off-road course on fine gravel track surface and grass. Course goes through open areas as well as some wooded areas and does have some gentle slopes both up and down. Course surface is good quality and will be clearly marked and staffed with event volunteers along the race route. Race course will have mileage markers every half mile and will be GPS surveyed and manually measured prior to event. Electronic microchip timing and scoring will be used and videotape of finish will be available online for participants. The planned course is similar, but not the same course used for previous 5Ks at this site, so come expecting few new twists and turns. Maps of course layout will be provided at registration.

Entry Fees

$15 entry fee if pre-registered by November 15, 2011. $20 late entry fee up to 8:45 a.m. on race day. Registration will be available the morning of the race from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the race site, but pre-registration by November 15 is highly recommended. The first 150 registered will receive a t-shirt of their chosen size at race check-in on the morning of the race. We will continue to offer free shirts to registrants at registration as they last but only the first 150 are guaranteed a shirt!

Age Groups

Race is open to all age groups. Special recognition will be given to youngest finisher and oldest finisher. Trophies will be given for top three overall male and female finishers as well as top three finishers in several age groups for both male and female classes. A total of 56 trophies will be awarded! Race is also open to walkers as the course will remain open for 90 minutes, allowing plenty of time for walkers to complete the course before the awards ceremony kicks off.

Awards

Trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Overall Male and Overall Female will be given. Trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in following age categories: Under 11 male, Under 11 female, 11-15 male, 11-15 female, 16-20 male, 16-20 female, 21-30 male, 21-30 female, 31-40 male, 31-40 female, 41-50 male, 41-50 female, 51-60 male, 51-60 female, over 60 male, over 60 female. Every registered racer will receive a free gift bag at registration and many door prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants, and other items will be given out by drawing during the post race awards ceremony. A list of some of the door prizes will be added here beginning in late October and will continue to be added as they are secured. We plan on having several thousand dollars worth of door prizes for our participants. First 150 pre-registered entrants will receive a race t-shirt the day of the race which will be included in their registration gift bags. Lots of door prizes are to be given away after race. Race results will be posted on TriStateRacer.com website and submitted to local media by noon on race day. The race will be covered by www.herdracing.com (gets more than 1 million viewers annually) and an online photo gallery will be made available to racers at www.herdracing.com with downloadable photos within 48 hours of race conclusion. Downloads are FREE. Herd Racing will provide a heated tent or trailer near the starting area for participants to warm up in and the restrooms at the YMCA Kennedy Center will be open to participants. FREE post race refreshments will be available to all racers and two water stations will be set up along race course to provide water to racers who desire it. There will be a free beverage, snack and fruit station for all participants at the end of the race and will include mini ham biscuits, bagels, various fruits and cheeses, water, juices, milk, hot chocolate and coffee. The snack station is being set up to feed 200 participants. The race event will also feature a FREE Kiddie Corral, a secure area with adult supervision where children can play while their parents race. Herd Racing's mascots, Thunder the Water Buffalo and Humble Bumble the Christian Bee, will be on hand to entertain the kids and help them with games and crafts. There will be bleacher seating at the finish line for families and finishers to watch. We plan to make this a race you won't want to miss.
